Chocolate not Carrots...Read on for Clarification

First of all, I am excited to announce a new section of my blog called First Song of the Day. And it's simply the first song I choose in the morning, or the first song that chooses me. And it sets the tone for the day.

Today's First Song of the Day is...Speak by Nickel Creek. I really like this band. I saw them in concert twice, and they're really different and cool. So this morning I shuffled all Nickel Creek and this song came on. It's very pretty and calming, exactly what I needed.

Album: This Side

So then I arrived at work. Nothing like a HUGE dark chocolate bar to greet me at my desk. THANKS KIRAN :) He probably got it for me so I shut up and stop compaining about not having any chocolate and NEEDING it all day at work.
I <3 Dark Chocolate
Speaking of chocolate, I have a new favorite dessert. Melted dark choc and fruit. Nothing new or special, I know, but yeah... I just melt 2 dove squares and dip some apples, grapes, berries, whatever in it.
One more thing about chocolate. So there are many sweets I love and I can resist. I convince myself easily, you don't need that. It's unhealthy. But with dark chocolate, I almost feel like it's a necessity in my diet. When I want chocolate, I need chocolate. Does anyone else feel this way?
Now onto Idol. So glad Lacey is gone. And I loved how Simon said, "It's UNANIMOUS, we are not saving you." Hahha cracked up!
Lastly, if I mentioned it earlier, which I'm not sure that I did, that I hated Parenthood, please disregard. I really didn't like the first episode, but I have come to realize that it's rare I like the pilot of any show. Plus I went into it expecting it to be funny for some reason, which it was not! Actually quite depressing...BUT I heard good things about it afterwords so I gave Parenthood a second chance, and now I'm so into it. The third ep was on last night- it makes me laugh and even cry. Each story is so great and they have such a cute, loving family. What are yout thoughts on this new show?

This morning I woke up and went for a run. I swear it warmed up about 10 degrees during the half hour. For my cool down as I was focusing on my breathing in through the nose, out through the mouth, I really noticed the spring smell. And it made me very happy and excited for what's to come.

For lunch I went to a networking event at this Greek restaraunt. It was an all women event. The speaker was great, I thought, and she touched on some points that really spoke to me and my constantly changing mind on what I want to do in my life and how I want to get where I want to go. She said that most of us unfortuantely live with a carrot on a stick dangling in front of us.

This means that we're constantly trying to improve and get to where we want to go, and we never allow oursleves to get there, or relaize that we've arrived. We always want to go further. But  we never take time to appreciate where we are NOW. Sound familiar? It sure did to me. It's something I strive to do...be happy where I am. It's hard, but SO crucial. So then she stated 4 guidelines on how to "catch your miracle". 1. Have an intense, driving desire or passion. 2. Believe 100% that it's possible to achieve. 3. Have or find the resources. DON'T BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR HELP. 4. Persistence. NEVER NEVER NEVER give up. She ended with a quote, who she said was from Jennifer Anistan, but I know it better from Boy Meets World..."Life's tough, get a helmet". Sure, we all want to be the best we can, and in order to do that we will encounter obstacles, But it's all the way you look at these obsiticles. Learn from them. Overcome them. And also, don't doubt yourslef. Only compare yourself to YOU. You'll always find someone better, prettier, smarter, etc. But you will also find someone worse off, uglier, and, well, dumber. So, just do the best YOU can. And take time to be proud of yourself too.

Ok, that's it for now. Ciao!

  1. You're welcome! Hey, if you didn't complain about it, I wouldn't have remembered to grab some when I ran into Wal-Mart last night!
